The plan separates the sleeping floors from the places people gather, so that dorms stay quiet while the common areas stay busy. Circulation runs along the outside of the building rather than through its middle, which keeps corridors daylit and gives every route a view out.
The open ground on the site is treated as usable room rather than setback. Shaded seating, planting and hard surfaces are arranged so that the outdoors works as an extension of the common areas, which is where a hostel of this size lives.
